Gene Atkins Rites Slated Sunday
Funeral services for Gene Atkins will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mount Tabor Baptist Church with Rev. Shirley Donnelly presiding. Burial follows at Sunset Memorial Park. Atkins, 29, of Cincinnati formerly Harper Heights, died at 7:30 a.m. Thursday in a local hospital from a kidney ailment. He worked as an efficiency expert in General Electric’s planning and map division. A Korean War veteran and Methodist, he was born April 9, 1928 in Long Bottom. Survived by parents Porter and Alma Atkins, two brothers Julius and Bobby, and sister Mrs Jo Ann Nuckols. Pallbearers named.

Funeral services for Mrs. Edna Earl Johnson were to be conducted at 3 p.m. today in the Welcome Baptist Church by Rev. J. A. Divers. Burial will follow in Madison, Virginia. Mrs. Johnson, 41, of 220 Church St., died at home Monday. Survivors include her father Henry Davis of Rochelle, Va., four sisters Mildred Davis of Naticket, Mass., Maria Lewis of Rever, Va., Christine Davis and Bessie Jenkins of Rochelle, and two brothers Fritz of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Christopher of Newark, N J. The body was to be transported from the Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor to the church one hour before services.
