Bluefield Legion Posts Withdraw Invitation
Two Bluefield American Legion posts withdraw an invitation to host the state convention this summer over lack of racially integrated accommodations for Black Legionnaires. State commander Chester Matney said the decision was made at a Wednesday night meeting and will be relayed to the convention commission to find another site for the July gathering. Matney noted Bluefield was nearly unique in inviting a large convention and that other feasible WV cities include Charleston Wheeling and Huntington.
