The Big Three foreign ministers said they will appoint civilian high commissioners to replace military governors in Austria's western occupation zones and will ease occupation burdens. A brief communique from American British and French talks notes Soviet unwillingness to settle all outstanding issues blocks a final agreement.
The United States Britain and France reaffirm aim for a quick treaty and withdrawal of Western troops from Austria while strengthening the Austrian government. They warn Austria faces a fate similar to postwar Germany if progress stalls, noting Vienna’s four-power division and four years of talks with Soviet objections still blocking a treaty.
After ten days of conferences, Western allies are urged to pay their own way in the war effort. The United States backs relieving Britain and France of operational burdens, as U S troops bear costs similarly. A boat train to Liverpool marks departure and a U S embassy sendoff greets the official.

Thomas E. Miller of Mt Hope pleaded guilty in Beaver Magistrate T H Wills court to driving while intoxicated and hit-and-run. He was fined 50 dollars plus costs for DUI and 25 dollars plus costs for the hit-and-run.

She would be eligible for parole after 10 years. The case traces to a 1949 treason conviction over a single count for the Vision of Invasion broadcast to GIs in 1944.

Spivey was charged with selling a chance on a baseball game and released on $500 bond. arraignment set for next Thursday before Magistrate M. H. Adkins.
Washington reports that with the 1950 census 95 percent complete the Census Bureau will announce tentative figures locally for cities with 1,000 or more this month through June. Earlier plans for county or 10,000+ city notices were changed and towns under 1,000 will receive no announcements.
Senate crime investigators plan a two pronged attack on the underworld to uncover income tax evasion and ties to political groups. Kefauver said the probe will target wealth concentration in organized crime and may seek access to tax files with executive order. About a dozen undercover agents will work with city, state and federal agencies while hearings remain private.
Twelve divorces were signed by Judge Ben H. Ashworth in Raleigh County Circuit Court this morning as the May term opened bringing the total to 36. Several adoptions involved custody of a child with plaintiffs receiving custody in several cases including Aliff Cook Aliff and Carden cases among others.
Grace Huff Lovins 48 of Charleston wife of President Judge W T Lovins of the State Supreme Court died this morning at Memorial Hospital Huntington after a several week illness. Funeral services are set for Sunday at 1 30 p m at the Baptist Temple Charleston with a second service at 5 p m at Huntington's Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. Burial follows at Spring Hill Cemetery Huntington.
An 18 year old Ohio youth named Jack Hartman admitted shooting his grandparents near Bryan on May 5 and faced arraignment on a concealed weapon charge in Parkersburg. Hartman indicated he would waive extradition to Ohio to face the homicide charges. Detective Lt. Marvin Prince said Hartman’s transfer to Bryan would wait until after the arraignment before Judge David F. Turner.
Funeral services for Henry L. Brewer 76 of Crab Orchard will be at 4 p m Sunday at Crab Orchard Baptist Church officiated by Rev Shirley Donnelly with Dr W P Eastwood assisting. He died at 5 15 a m today after a two week illness. He was born January 18 1874 in Ansted and worked 35 years for Gulf Smokeless Coal at Tams before retiring three years ago. Survivors include his wife Daisy Murphy Brewer of Crab Orchard four daughters Don Burkholder Oak Hill Walter H Stein Welch Thomas P Ray Beckley Luther Johnson Beckley one son G W Brewer and four grandchildren. Body to be removed from Williams Funeral Home Sophia to Crab Orchard residence at 5 p m Saturday and in state at the church one hour before services.
West Virginia senators urged a one year extension for Morgantown Ordnance Plant operation to June 30, 1951. Holly River State Park, leased to WV, would be turned over to the state by the federal government. Charleston proclaimed IT am an American Day promoting naturalized citizens and native born youth reaching age. A coroner reported a drowning in Buffalo Creek, and a Nitro plant explosion caused $10,000 in damage. State conservation law fines totaled 165 convictions at $2,835 in April, up from March.

City Police Captain Millard Tyree said three men accused of breaking and entering the C and L Cut Rate Store on Neville Street Monday night were arrested and jailed. Douglas Minor of Red Jacket was nabbed while trying to break into a car in East Park. Arthur R. Gaiton and Roland Cooney, both of Beckley, were caught in Raleigh at 1 a.m. today. Some merchandise taken from the firm was returned and investigators remain on the case.
The Ways and Means Committee voted to cut coal industry taxes by 5 to 10 million dollars annually and raise the depletion allowance from five to ten percent of gross income. The move ties to the idea that mining reduces mine value through coal removal.
Pikeville conveys that Lon Moses 60 a Prestonsburg Ky school board member faced murder charges in the Baldridge slaying as the fifth day of trial opens with three more witnesses. Coroner Floyd County and a Prestonsburg dentist described footprints from the body to an alley between homes, suggesting a male suspect.
