Ruth Elizabeth Watkins, 49, of Beckley was sentenced to one to five years in the state penitentiary after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the death of Obie Jones, 71, of Peace Springs Raleigh County. A probation motion was denied but a post conviction psychiatric examination was granted, with credit for three months already served. Jurors were ordered back for May 22.

Settlement Reached in Condemnation Case in Raleigh County
The State Department of Highways settled with Collis Amon of Bradley and Beckley National Bank before jurors were sworn in Raleigh County Circuit Court. Lytton Withdraws Guilty Plea In Bomb Threat Case
John William Lytton, 39, of Beckley, withdrew his guilty plea to a federal indictment charging him with making a false bomb threat against United Airlines. A trial was set for July 12 after judges appointed new counsel for Lytton. The threats were telephoned from Beckley on July 15, 1971, and Lytton had earlier undergone psychiatric exams.
