Mt Hope Junior Women Install New Officers At Dinner

Mount Hope Mt Hope Junior Women held a buffet dinner meeting at the Lion Club House to install new officers for the club year. Frances Dixon conducted the ceremony with Nora Belle Peters as president and Norma Lee Bowman as secretary, while Mrs. Peters named the new committee chairmen and Violet McCutcheon retired as president.

Security Loan Drive Planned in Fayette County

Staff writer reports Fayette County aims for a county goal of 867 300 in the American Security Loan Drive with 63 percent in series or peoples bonds. Committee chairs met with county chairman J W Jones to organize clubs fraternal groups and retailers to boost bond sales, noting West Virginia has ranked high in national bond sales through war drives and low redemptions nationally.

Lochgelly Miner Dies of Injuries

Lochgelly miner Frank Belcher, age 97, died at Oak Hill Hospital from injuries suffered at work a week earlier in a mine operation. His body remains at Collins Funeral Home, Glen Jean, as funeral arrangements are pending.

Ben Gurion declares no force can stop Jewish nation birth

In a news conference David Ben-Gurion, now foreign minister, said no force could halt the birth of a Jewish nation. Amid fighting near Bab El Wad Gorge east of Nazareth, Harangeah commanders voiced readiness. The field force is described as the Middle East's largest active army with every Jewish reservist under 24 hour stand by.

DPA Field Supervisor Speaks at Mullens Moose Night

Mabel Cook of Welch, district field supervisor for the Department of Public Assistance, spoke at Mullens Women of the Moose on child care and adoption for unwed mothers. Initiation was held for Isabelle Cook. Nominations for new officers to be announced May 26, with an election June 2. A $5 donation supported the State Academy of Friendship. Mullens High School ads raised $7. Fundraising by hospital guild and Moosehart alumni chairmen was approved for chapter events.

Lions Sponsor Boy Scout Troop at Oak Hill

The Oskill Lions voted to sponsor Boy Scout Troop 117 at a meeting in the Hotel Hill last night. C. L Garvin spoke on the troop’s work while W. Dixon was named chairman of the Boy Scout committee with assistants J. S. Painter James W. Shelton J Ralph Taylor KR T Scott and Eli Patrick. The Lions security bond drive chair H J McKinnon announced a committee including H T Marsh T Hy Mason J J Fox and R E Caverdish. They will meet the Rat Club Tuesday to discuss a possible bond selling contest between the clubs. Guests included Kermit Locke deputy district governor Beckley and Thomas Barton Oak Hill.

Fayetteville clubs plan bake sale on courthouse lawn

Fayetteville Woman's Club and American Legion Auxiliary will hold a bake sale tomorrow at 10 am on the courthouse lawn weather permitting. If bad weather, headquarters move to Davis Furniture Store. Proceeds go to the Auxiliary Memorial Building Fund. Cakes pies candy and canned foods will be sold.

Kopperston Board Hear Flood and Expansion Needs

Kopperston parents tell Wyomiing County Board of Education of basement flood at Kopperston grade school and request three new classrooms plus an auditorium. They cite crowding, 425 enrollment, and future growth from Eastern Gas and Fuel plans while federal aid and hot lunch recovery are discussed. A high velocity pump will be installed to address recurring floods.

Fayetteville Legion Men to Attend School

Two members of LaFayette Post 149 of the American Legion C. W. Scott and George W Caldwell leave Fayetteville today to attend a school of instruction at Jackson’s Mill run by the West Virginia Department of Veteran Affairs. The program will cover veterans claims the G I Bill and other veteran war details. They will return Sunday.
