Fayette Native Beaten To Death In Baltimore

The body of Thomas Ellis Wimmer 45 formerly of Gatewood was returned to Fayette County for burial after being found beaten to death on a Baltimore street. Baltimore police continue the investigation and report several suspects. Funeral services are set for May 13 at the Brethren Church Gatewood with Rev. E L Clower officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery Yale Hill. Wimmer born November 14 1902 at Minden and had lived in Baltimore about four years working as a painter. He is survived by his mother Mrs. Sarah Moore two brothers John Morgan Wimmer Gatewood and Luke D Wimmer Fayetteville Route 1 one sister Mrs. Okey Hendricks Holland Ohio and a daughter Dorris Wimmer Meadow Bridge.

Olds Rites Set For Wednesday

Final rites for John Wise Olds 68 who died Saturday at his Fayetteville Route 1 home will be at 2 pm Wednesday at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev O C Rushing will officiate and burial will be in Highlawn Memorial Park. Olds a Virginia born retired farmer is survived by wife Rosa a brother J Abe Olds of Ohio a sister Mrs Levie Marsh of Sun and children George Willard Mrs Margaret Riggs Mrs Lucille Brown and Mrs Kate Moran.

Seven Seek Oak Hill Council Seats At City Hall Convention

Oak Hill citizens nominated seven men for the council at a two hour convention in City Hall. Of 16 candidates, H. A. Berry led with 134 votes, C. R. Hill 125, R. E. B. Kelly 117, George Blizzard 104, R. C. Woods 110, I. O. Moses 88, and C. E. Duncan 84. Several others were eliminated, making a June 3 ballot unlikely to include another ticket under a state law requiring conventions be held 20 days before the election. The seven elected will appoint a city manager under the Home Rule Charter adopted earlier this year.

Fayetteville sees a mayoral race with T. A. Myles leading the People's Party ticket for the June 3 election. Ben D. Keller seeks recorder, running on both party tickets. Citizen's Ticket backs Charles Hesse for mayor. Council slate includes Frank Love and C. G. Janubolo with others named by each side.

Robertson Rites To Be Held Today

Funeral services for Pete Alexander Robertson 78 who died in a Charleston hospital after five weeks illness will be at 2 p m at Winston Baptist Church. Burial in Winston family cemetery. Rev Cash Brooks of Fayetteville Route 1 will officiate. He was born in Tazewell County Virginia September 25 1869 and was a member of Winston Baptist Church. Survived by sister Mrs Laura Comer and many children.

Police Chief Confined To Home After Heart Issue

Oak Hill police chief Dewey S. Kincaid suffered a likely heart attack returning from a city nominating convention. Dr. B F Puckett treated him at home with Patrolman Jess Spade reporting no new updates. Nearby events include a Rotary Club guest Harold B Shaw, and three marriage permits issued in Fayetteville. John R Lafferty underwent an appendectomy at the local hospital. The Woman's Society of Christian Service will meet June 9 at Mrs Annie Walker's home in Winona.

Jaycees Increase Membership by Seventeen

The Junior Chamber of Commerce reports 17 new members since the drive began last week. Chairman Hulett C. Smith says the goal is one new member per participant and the drive ends May 25.

Mullens Youth Saves Life Of Pal in Bank Cave-In

A 15 year old Mullens youth saved his 14 year old friend trapped when a clay bank cave in at a Mullens dig site. Dickie Laxton pulled Carl Pritchard from the mouth of an 8 foot cave and both boys were helped by two men and Dr. Biggart to Taylor Hospital where X rays showed a fractured vertebra. The injured boy’s condition was not serious.

Lights to Be Installed at Nuttall High Stadium

Lights will be installed at the Nuttall High School football stadium before next fall. Twelve poles have arrived and other equipment is expected soon. Physical education students have been preparing the field with topsoil, fertilizer, and grass seed. In Marshall College news Bill Dower has returned from Huntington after caring for his ill mother with visits from Athaline Parr and Mrs. Howard Simms of Montgomery.

Jesse Soldier Serves With Cavalry Outfit

Jesse-Fre, Vance Foster of Jesse serves with the First Cavalry Division on occupation duty in the Tokyo-Yokohama area. Enlisted Oct 3 1946 trained at Camp Polk Louisiana shipped overseas Dec 9 1946. He serves as first scout in Baker Troop Eighth Cavalry after Oceana High School graduation.
