WV Unemployment Stays High In March Statewide Labor Force Declines
West Virginia faced 12 percent unemployment in March, over twice the national average. Governor Barron called the 70,600 unemployed relatively low, noting declines from prior years and a shrinking labor force since 1961. Shifting job seekers, coal miners migrating to Montana, and 60 new plants plus 63 expansions since 1961 are shaping the state’s labor picture.
