President Kennedy greets the Railway Labor Act board’s 10.4 cent an hour wage boost for about half a million railroad workers amid opposition from unions and management. The report delays a strike for 30 days, with unions threatening to strike after June 2.
An extensive list of chairmen and workers for the Honey in the Rock drive was announced by campaign chairman Mrs. Robert Thomson. A kickoff meeting at 7 30 tonight at Greenbrier Dairy will include Dr. Kermit Hunter of Hollins College to explain the project and aid fund solicitation.
Soviet cosmonaut Gherman Titov spoke about snacks in space and peace on Earth but dodged questions on his launch vehicle. He and John Glenn debated disarmament while Titov planned a Baltimore visit to Bethlehem Steel Sparrow Point and an embassy reception in Washington.

West Virginia state banks registered a $40,814,553 rise in resources from 1961 to 1962 signaling improving business climate. Donald Lee OH 22 of Harpers Ferry, discharged from the Army, was killed.

Police arrested four railway workers on gross negligence charges after a triple train wreck near Mikawashima killed 163 and injured 385. Engineers Norifumi Minakami Yukio Haga Sadahiro Misaji and staffer Shin Ohashi face accusations of misreading signals and failing to act, as wrecking crews continue at the scene.
A doctors revolt aimed at opposing Kennedy's Medicare for the aged spread to four New Jersey hospitals led by Point Pleasant where 43 physicians pledged not to treat patients under the program. About 200 doctors joined, with Newark Beth Israel, Tom's River Community Memorial, and Orange Memorial cited. The move targets hospital bills paid by Social Security and drew sharp criticism from Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn who warned the action would damage the medical profession's reputation.
Three self styled minute men jailed in Miami for bombing the Miami Herald editor home. State Atty. Gerstein says arrests may rise and that the group planned a reign of terror including assassinations and dynamiting the homes of other editors and worship sites. Undercover agent facilitated the ten week investigation.
Beckley Police investigate Thursday night break-ins at two local businesses. A theft of 90 dollars from George's Fashions cash register at 110 S. Heber Street is suspected to involve a person hidden inside the shop before closing, who then entered the register after hours. A Raleigh Coca Cola Bottling Plant break-in yielded a few dollars from a vending machine, with intruders rummaging trucks but taking no valuables. Police continue the investigation.
Dick West recalls Titov and Glenn joking about a "joint Soviet American venture" as they rode the Washington Monument elevator. Del J Paul England chairman of the Guyandot River Basin committee says pollution of Winding Gulf Creek was caused by the Helen mine operated by Eastern Gas and Fuel. The mine lacks a valid permit to pollute but if future pollution occurs permits can be rescinded and warrants issued. Sludge from the Helen tipple darkened the creek after Gov Barron praised area cleanup. England cites reliable tips blaming the tipple and recalls prior outbreaks two weeks earlier at the Helen mine. Sgt Ivan Pizzino accompanied inspection efforts citing lack of action to curb conditions.
Robert Davis engineer for the Stephen's Lake project will be at the site starting at 10 a m Sunday to show maps and explain parts of the program. He will speak from a field vantage point about the county project and the lake road around the area will be in good condition for driving.

James Todorovich Oak Hill employee, John Faval e government inspector, Glenn McCarroll Hastings Michigan VP of Actionflex Corp., and Nelson Almandinger Michigan master mechanic inspect and will install at Oak Hill plant. Training to operate machines will take about four weeks. The gear will produce rocket containers shipped to Denver and Newport with production reaching 13,000 per month by August. Ash Craft plant lies between Oak Hill and Fayetteville and now makes aluminum boats.
New Orleans dispatch summarizes President Kennedy’s stance on trade. He envisions gradual tariff levelling to unite the non-Communist world through economic self-interest, aiming for a trillion-dollar economy and 50 percent growth in the 1960s. He argues trade creates vastly more jobs than it costs and must offer Europe goods in exchange for imports.
In New Orleans the president framed an Atlantic partnership between the European Common Market and a united Atlantic economy with the United States. He argued tariffs, capital controls, and cuts undermine the free world and pledged a trillion dollar economy ready to grow by 50 percent, citing New Orleans’ port trade stakes.
