Palmer Collins Face Off In Houston Classic Playoff
Arnold Palmer and Big Bill Collins tied at 280 after 72 holes in the $35,000 Houston Classic playoff for first money. Palmer, Masters champion, finished with a 1 over par 73 and a final 72. Collins shot 75, missing a 15-foot birdie at the final green that would have won. Jack Fleck missed the playoff with a six-inch birdie attempt on 18 and finished third with 281. If Palmer places second he still collects a career-high year in earnings. A crowd of about 12,000 watched the final round at Memorial Park Golf Course.
