Bolt-Three Forks Highway Progress Report
Construction of the new Bolt Three Forks Highway is advancing slowly due to an unresolved financing decision. Estimated at 6.4 million dollars, the project could use state forces, bid letting, or qualify under the Appalachian program for federal participation. Engineering for sections one and two is complete. section three restudy is planned, with no schedule yet. Five state maintenance workers and 40 ADCU workers are clearing rights of way as timber and brush were cut a year ago. The 13 mile route would bring Boone and Logan counties 50 miles closer to Beckley, a goal long sought by nearby residents. The Boone County line to Bolt and Raleigh County's eastern terminus lies 17 miles west of Beckley.
