New Rent Law Targets Black Market With Home Rule Provisions
The new rent control extender and home rule provisions aim to curb a growing rent black market. The Senate approved the measure 78 to 11 and the House 262 to 143, with President Truman expected to sign. The act allows states areas to decontrol or reimpose controls, fights evictions, and regulates voluntary increases. Veterans remain favored for first rents or purchases.
