Sunday Warmest Day Of Year In Beckley
Temperatures reached 67 degrees at the Raleigh County Memorial Airport marking the year’s warmest reading. Earlier this month a 65 degree high was recorded. Three Brooklyn butchers were found slain in the freezer of Spring Valley Meat Market in Bedford Stuyvesant after an apparent weekend robbery. Study Of I-77 Route To Virginia Border Stated
The U S Bureau of Public Roads will fund 75 percent of an Interstate 77 study with the state covering the remainder. Gov Hulett C Smith said the project will produce a preliminary engineering report on possible routes from Charleston to the Virginia border near Princeton. One option is the West Virginia Turnpike. Welch man believed drowned after Tug River search
Authorities in McDowell County planned another river search for Charles Rushbrooke of Hemphill who, age 26, reportedly waded into the Tug River near Welch on Thursday as floodwaters rose. Sunday’s attempt with many volunteers was unsuccessful due to high water.
