Four Ohio River Dams To Be Dynamited This Year
UPI reports four Ohio River dams in the Huntington area will be blown up this year to clear a navigation pool created by the Greenup Kentucky dam. Dams Nos. 29 and 30 at Ashland and Greenup Nos. 27 Proctorville and 28 North Kenova plus Dam No. 1 on the Big Sandy River will be removed. Smokeless Field Coal Output Dips in February
Mines in the Smokeless Field of southern West Virginia produced 1,554,160 tons of coal in February, down 41,360 tons from January. The Smokeless Operators Association reported most mines are in Mercer, McDowell, Raleigh and Wyoming counties, with weekly output at 267,946 tons last week versus 468,405 a year earlier.

War II Plane Found With 14 Dead Aboard
PORT MORESBY New Guinea UPI reports a United States World War II C47 transport wreckage was found with 14 bodies aboard after ground crews searched the central highlands for a missing light plane. The fuselage was nearly intact and a jeep in good condition. A Boomerang fighter wreck with its pilot dead was also found. Australian and American teams will recover and identify the dead.
