Beckley City Government Praised for Fire Equipment Upgrade
A letter from E V King of the West Virginia Inspection Bureau of Charleston commends Beckley officials led by Mayor A Z Lilly for upgrading fire protection. Improvements include five hydrant pressure streams, two in service trucks, 2800 feet hose, longer ladder, nozzles and equipment, more trained staff, better alarms, and boosted morale, replacing prior inadequacy and high fire losses. Stocks Drop In Short Session
After two rising sessions the market reversed mildly in a short session. Brokers attributed the softness to indifference rather than a major shift in sentiment. Cram's auto output estimate for the week reached 100,000 cars in the U S and Canada, up from prior weeks. General Motors and Chrysler posted fractional losses while observers weighed foreign developments including Italy's call to arms and France's stance. The day's 299,450 shares traded were lighter than recent sessions, and the Associated Press average finished 0.04 lower at 36.3.
