West Virginia high school results show Williamstown 69 Newell 65 in Class A Region 1 and Kermit 89 Sophia 58 in Region 7. Marsh Fork beat Stratton 66 51 as Pritchard led with 17 points and Pemberton 13 rebounds. Final matches set for Saturday night at 7 30.

Chicago relays bring expected world record attempts in five events led by Jim Beatty and Bruce Kidd in the mile and two mile. Tom O'Hara and Jim Grelle press for a four minute mile pace while Pentti Nikula, Dave Tork and John Jelses chase a pole vault record. Joe Faust, Bill Crothers and Fred Foot court a 1000 yard mark amid strong competition.
The two day Southern Conference Wrestling Tournament opens in Morgantown with WVU leading the field at 10-3 followed by The Citadel 7-1-1 and Davidson 6-2-1. Virginia Tech brings a 1-7-1 slate and hopes for upset runs as defending champs and top contenders vie for titles. Top matches include WVU 167 pound champ Roy Sisler and Citadel’s Paul Stork in the 177 class. Jioio favored to beat Hatcher in 157. Semifinals Friday night with consolations Saturday 2 pm and finals 7:30 pm. Trap Hill 7-13 faces Stoco 2-18 in a key pairing.
