Friday Golden Age Club meets at Park Avenue

The Woman's Department invites women’s organizations to submit notices for regular or special meetings. The Golden Age Club, sponsored by the Woman's Club of Beckley, will meet at the clubhouse on Park Avenue at 7 30 p m Friday.

Saturday events fill the calendar with dances and club meetings. Bud Bleau calls the Calico and Jeans Square Dance at Greenbrier Dairy Social Room at 8 p m. Social Saving Club holds a Bruce's Diner banquet at 7 p m. Various clubs meet across town with host homes and guest speakers through the afternoon and evening.

Meadows Family Honors Their Parents in Cabell Heights

A large Meads Meadows family gathering honors Mr. and Mrs. Meadows parents at Cabell Heights. Beaver Fire Queen Contest Opens Sponsored by SS Clubwomen

The Shady Spring District Woman's Club hosts a fund raising contest to crown the Beaver Volunteer Fire Department queen. All Shady Spring High School girls in the SS District may enter by registering with Wendell Thurman, with votes costing 10 cents. The winner earns a parade crown on April 19 and a summer schedule including the June 22 Centennial Parade. attendants require at least 10 dollars in votes.

Beckley Little Symphony Wows Season Finale

The Chicago Little Symphony under Thor Johnson closed the 1962 63 Beckley Community Concert Association season with a varied program. Bach Sinfonia impressed, Kol Nidre moved, Griffes Poem pleased, and soloists Hamilton Chauson Gariglio shone. Dohnanyi Hungarian Rural Scenes and Bazelaire Grecian Suite drew warm applause. Audience behavior cited as inappropriate between movements. Johnson's leadership praised for balanced, intimate orchestral quality. We must have them back.
