Teen boy to face trial for killing intruder in Stamford home

John Chernuchkin sixteen was slated for a probable cause hearing in Circuit Court after defending his family during a February home invasion. He disarmed intruder Albert Shipley, and then, as his brother shouted that the father was dead, shot the man with Shipley’s revolver. Shipley died at the hospital from chest and abdominal wounds. The mother Veronica was critically wounded but survived. The case raises questions of necessity and proportionality in the defense. John is free on a $15,000 bond posted by an aunt.
