In Hernshaw near Charleston an estranged husband Edward Kinder of Ashford Boone County killed his ex wife Dharma and Dave Ellis in a trailer home after confrontation about 4 am. Witness Bill Bruce said Kinder asked where his wife was after the first blasts and fled in an abandoned car.

Phillips Resigns Vocational Post In Wyoming County

At 10 a m the Wyoming County Board of Education accepted the resignation of Claude Phillips as director of the Wyoming County Vocational School Grady Mullens was named to the post for the remainder of the school year He will also continue as an instructor The board also authorized bids on new school buses trading in four 1947 models and one 1948 model Bids will be opened at the April meeting The board discussed crowded conditions housing problems and invited county high school seniors to attend county court meetings in the new Courthouse Addition Three schools Mullens Conley and Herndon will attend Tuesday's meeting

William J. Cole 75 president of Cole Baking Co and Cole Realty Co died at his home 703 College Avenue Bluefield after months of ill health. Survived by wife Mary Holbrook Cole four sons four daughters two sisters and other relatives. Funeral services set for 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Emanuel Lutheran Church Bluefield, with burial at Monta Vista Park Cemetery. Mercer Funeral Home in charge. Bright Object Seen Passing Over Area

Residents in Ghent Shady Spring and Table Rock reported a bright fast moving object after 9 p m. Raleigh County Board of Education member STRALIE WALKER and local fire group members described a blue lit object the size of a half gallon bucket with rings trailing as it sped northward and then faded. Witness Clarence Griffith said a white ball appeared to break apart and burn out mid air. Minor Scott of Table Rock recalled the yard being lit briefly by the light before it vanished.

Army Moon Shot Delayed By Power Failure At Cape Canaveral

Army missile men resumed work on the lunar probe rocket after a power failure scrubbed Sunday night’s attempt to send a satellite past the moon into a solar orbit. The 76 foot rocket was near target time when the launch was halted. another attempt could occur tonight or tomorrow, with a month delay if rescheduled.

Washington meeting draws 60 from eight WV counties

A conference in Washington DC convened by Senators Jennings Randolph and Robert Byrd drew about 60 participants from eight Southern West Virginia counties. Ministers Okeh Library Donation

The Beckley Area Ministerial Association will donate 100 dollars to the Raleigh County Library and cooperate in National Library Week. The meeting at Beckley Presbyterian Church approved the gift and discussed observances. Girl Sues Constable Over Arrest After Car Crash

A seven woman five man Raleigh County jury heard Joyce Jean McGinnis, a 16 year old Dry Creek girl suing through her mother, claim Marsh Fork District Constable Posey Clay wrongfully arrested her after a crash near Edwight on August 16, 1958. Opening statements described unlawful arrest, with witnesses including Juvenile Court Judge Harry. The suit seeks 3500 dollars for false imprisonment and related damages.

Turnpike Crash Injures Five Near Milepost 22

Five people were injured in a Sunday evening collision on the West Virginia Turnpike at Milepost 22 when a car carrying a Roanoke family hit a tractor-trailer. All were hospitalized in good condition at Beckley Hospital. The 1957 car, owned by Byron Smith Co, was totaled. Investigation by a Turnpike worker in Princewa.
