The Raleigh County Red Cross declares a county wide fund drive opening today with a house to house canvass through March 10. The drive seeks 22 500 under a county goal and asks 1 or more donations for a membership card. Pins and stickers will be given to contributors and 8 000 pamphlets distributed to explain benefits.

Easter Seal Appeal Volunteers Prepare Envelopes

Virgil Miller, president of Raleigh County Society for Crippled Children and Adults, said the workers assisted at Come Mrs. L. Funeral services for Mrs. Mary E. Shrewsbury and others were pending arrangements at Caffee Funeral Home. Mrs. Hibbard died after a lengthy illness born July 29, 1890 Coal Creek Tennessee. she resided in Raleigh County ten years and is survived by husband James P. Hibbard, two daughters Eva Sartoski and Patsy Hibbard, four sons Arthur Charles D C and Elmer M., the latter in Japan with the U S Army.

Grass Fire Damages Property Near Beckley
A grass fire at 106 Lional Ave. Wednesday around 2 35 p m was fought by Beckley firefighters from the Junior Girls Class of Station No 2 for about a half hour. Rhodell Church of God noted as the origin of the blaze. Firemen said the home of Mrs Marilyn Mead Mason was not involved. A party hosted by teacher Sophia Williams followed the incident.
