Let God Take Over Doctors Urged To Let Cancer Patients Die
Mayo Clinic endocrinologist Dr Edward H Rynearson urged physicians at an American Medical Association ethics symposium to stop prolonging the life of incurably ill cancer patients who suffer severe pain and to let them die when all treatment is exhausted. He described removing aggressive intervention as the kindest option and said adults, not children, in such conditions should be allowed relief from excruciating pain even if it means death. He warned against keeping patients alive indefinitely with tubes and restrictive care, calling the scene a cocoon of oxygen near a shroud.
