Beckley Men Help to Shape Forest Fire Prevention Program
Two Beckley men, F. H. Halstead and Dr. J. M. Laing, join six others to outline educational forest conservation efforts for the Keep West Virginia Green Committee formed March 31 in Charleston. Halstead named program co chair by H. Burdette Crow, with Carl J. Johnson sharing duties. The group proposed three year goals: widespread Keep Green road signs in high fire areas, billboard use during fire season, and auto tags bearing the slogan. An executive committee of 12 will recruit five more members, with county committees planned as chairmen are named. The Keep Green program ties to the West Virginia Forest Council and state conservation efforts.

Brannan Opposes Hoover Plan for PMA Overhaul
Brannan clashes with Hoover Commission aims to overhaul the Production and Marketing Administration. He withholds reorganization plans amid a feud with Senator Clinton Anderson and Allan B. Kline over farmer income methods. He favors keeping county farmer elected committees to steer programs and subsidies. State and county costs show high administration and logistics expenses relative to subsidies. PMA seeks efficiency but faces ongoing funding and structural debate. West Virginia PMA officials urged self-analysis to cut costs, though reductions remain uncertain.
