Beckley Faces Higher Fire Rates and Inbetriate Commitment Policy

The Raleigh County Mental Hygiene Commission ordered a 35 year old Beckley man to a state mental hospital as an inebriate following a warrant from Beckley Patrolman Jess Williams. Sheriff Ward noted this was the first such action by the county on officer recommendation. Fire insurance ratings for Beckley may rise after July due to a 60 hour week for firefighters. If the city council does not fund four new firefighters, Beckley could drop from seventh to sixth class with the Insurance Bureau, increasing rates for brick and frame dwellings and merchants.
