WVU Alfalfa Weevil Research Underway in 1961
West Virginia University entomologists Dr C K Dorsey and David O Quinn monitor 50 acres of alfalfa for weevil control in soil bank fields using 15 inch sweep nets. Fifty sweeps per plot collect larvae and adults, with samples stored for counting to evaluate new insecticides. Initial counts show high larvae in untreated plots and low counts in treated plots. Researchers aim to compare with past results and will issue recommendations when ready. Local agents will notify growers once guidance is issued.
