Mount Hope will require building permits for new construction. Applicants must file with the city clerk, include building plans location and materials, and obtain action from a building committee chaired by Pp. C. Graney. The panel includes W. Tissue and W. D. Lawton.
Mount Hope Lions district governor Ralph M Bailey announced plans to ask all district clubs to contribute eye testing equipment for schools. He urged Mount Hope Lions to back the project enabling an eye specialist to inspect up to six children per hour. At Ladies Night 92 Lions and guests heard Myra Sue Roush sing and new officers were installed led by president Javith.
Fay County AAA chair B. J. Amick announces amended Civilian Production controls raise lumber quotas. Distributors may order two carloads per quarter with monthly limits, 73 percent reserve, and release rules for certified and unrated orders. Saw mills must reserve 50 percent monthly softwood output. changes aim to increase un rated supply for farmers.
The June 9 wedding of Miss Jonelle Williams and Lacy B. Stover was announced. The ceremony took place at the First Methodist Church in Beckley with Rev. Cooks officiating.
Mr. and Mrs. Elis Co. Cruise of Circle Drive with their niece Maxine Jennings and nephew Rudolph Jennings of Charleston depart for Daytona Beach to spend their vacation and plan to return in July.
Clarence Wilson Feury age 64 of Willis Branch died at his home after a three day illness following a paralytic stroke. He was born in White Sulphur Springs in 1882 and lived here most of his life. Survived by his wife Effie Janeely Feury four brothers a sister and several step-children. Funeral at 2 p.m. Sunday at Willis Shumate Pax with burial at Humphrey cemetery.
A Federal Bureau of Mines report credits Leckie Smokeless Coal company mines No 2 and No 3 with a fire fighting organization coal dust control and insulated telephone cables. Inspector Trinkley urges safer haulage an organized safety program no smoking rules periodic accident studies and improved ventilation safeguards with weekly explosion pass tests and better power wire protection.
Oak Hill resident Russell James, veteran of four years and 11 months, re-enlists for 18 months in the regular Army after being announced by Beckley recruiting officer Captain Robert O. Baer. James holds the good conduct medal and campaign ribbons including American Defense European Theater and Combat Infantryman Badge. Forest Allen Vent of Kincaid and Alfred Moore of Beckley also enlist for three years as privates in unassigned and Pacific theater roles respectively.
GAK Hill-Dick Hill reports 19 girls from Fayette and Raleigh counties lead in Girl Scouts attending the Fayette Raleigh county camp at Camp Campbell near Hinton next week. A total of 95 girls are registered from both counties. Counselors travel Saturday for training. Transportation from Fayetteville is provided by Mrs L Ebersole Gaines. New equipment was purchased this year. Activities include swimming outdoor cooking singing dramatics camp fires hiking crafts and nature study. Visiting day is Sunday June 30 with parents welcome. Bus departs Montgomery at noon Monday to pick up campers.
Mr and Mrs A H McIntire of Mount Hope announce the marriage of their daughter Mary Elizabeth McIntire to Ralph Morris Scandling of Seaside. The ceremony was at 2 p.m. June 5 at the Army Chapel Fort Ord California by Major William J Washer. The couple resides in Seaside and she is stationed at Fort Ord.
Fred W. Dickinson was elected delegate and Julius Olger alternate to the Lions International convention July 16 19 by Oak Hill Lions. The club received a banner from the state convention for outstanding service in District 29 W upper group. Delegates Bessies Mason and Thomas reported Morgantown events and new officers will be installed next Thursday night.
Mount Hope Charles Falletty and Fred Huber won a state Supreme Court appeal from a Fayette circuit court decision revoking their beer permits. The 1945 act gave circuit courts concurrent jurisdiction with the state beer commission for alleged sales to minors and intoxicated persons.
At South Mullens headquarters 30 people took the state driver's license test. Trooper Max B. Hyer said many applicants failed to meet requirements, and he noted a likely rise in license seekers during the summer months.
Mullens West Virginia a mine foreman Frank P Saunders at East Gulf admitted to Beckley hospital this morning for a kidney condition after reporting for work. Other notes include Mrs Hubert Hickok and son Jackie visiting Princeton with her parents and Mrs F B Lampton of Highland Avenue expected to return home after Richmond Clinic stay. Mrs Joe Blackwell admitted to Beckley hospital for treatment and observation. Roy Ign and wife announce the birth of a seven pound son yesterday afternoon borne at 40 p.m. as mother and child rest nicely.
Registrars will operate across Pineville county from June 25 to 29 to assist voters with registration changes ahead of the August primary. Hours and locations include Baileysville Post Office, Hanover Post Office, Bulfato School House, Sun Hill Post Office, and many stores and schools in communities such as Virgil Morgan's, Coal Mountain, Glen Rogers, Itmann, Copeland, and Wyco, with daily schedules varying by site.
Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Bailey and Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Murphy transferred Lot 41 in Section 2 of the Bailey Murphy addition to Pineville to Eugene Noble. A Brooke Bailey and husband conveyed Lot 343 on Deegans Avenue in Mullens to Mullens Lodge No. 234 Knights of Pythias.
Mullens church marks its fourth opening anniversary with a 1 PM sermon by Rev G F Thomas and a 4 PM service, followed by 8 PM worship led by Rev Rowland Aspinall. The three story modern structure, built on hand cut stone and cream brick, cost over 880,000 and sits on land once home to a frame community church.
The Wyoming County Trade School reports ten Mullens residents and 24 from Herndon enrolled. Director Okey McCourt told the Rotary Club the day school is funded 62 percent by state and federal funds and 32 percent by the county, while the night school is funded entirely by state and federal governments. He showed machine tools made at the school. Guests included Daniel Bailey Jr and Dewey McKinney from Mullens.
Beckley Recreation Board members said attendance at the city playgrounds was good at yesterday’s session. The meeting did not appoint a full-time recreation director, with Ross Irle of Beckley Junior High serving as playground supervisor this summer.

Velmer C Richmond of Dunns and Virginia Fay Meadows of Daniels. Five Pineville residents returned from the Castle Rock Sunday schools convention held in Jaeger McDowell County. Rev E J Hill of Key Rock Wyoming County was elected president for the coming year with Rev Joe C Hatfield as vice president and Rev G P Goode re elected secretary.
Miss Shirley Lampton daughter of Mr and Mrs E E Lampton Mullens has enrolled for the summer term at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music where she has completed two years work She taught private lessons in Louisville Kentucky last winter and her plans for the coming winter are not definite.
Mrs. David Lucas will conduct dancing classes starting Saturday at the Civic Clubhouse. Sessions run from 10 to 2, with programs for youngsters 4 to 12 including ballet and acrobatic styles and ballroom dancing for high school students. A definite schedule will be announced later. Baby clinic held today in Lochgelly and Summersee offices from 9 to 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. respectively.
