Cape Canaveral mission sends the 285-pound Tiros-5 hurricane hunter satellite into a near earth orbit about 400 miles up aboard a Delta rocket at 8 19 a m EDT. Officials report the satellite successfully reached orbit about two and a half hours after launch and will monitor weather over most of the world including Russia using compact water glass size cameras.

A former Raleigh County woman and her husband were found dead in their Cincinnati apartment after a neighbor reported concerns. CHARLESTON UPI The State Supreme Court today upheld a 1 to 10 year prison sentence handed to Paul Hankish Wheeling underworld figure for taking part in the burglary of a Fairmont supermarket nearly three years ago. The ruling affirmed a Marion County Circuit Court decision, keeping Hankish convicted on the breaking and entering charge despite an earlier U.S. District Court sentence for gambling operations without a federal stamp. Hankish was one of three men convicted in the September 1959 robbery. a fourth suspect was jailed in New Jersey. He remains free on a $15 000 bond pending appeal.
