Oak Hill Funeral Home marks its 50th anniversary this month. Thomas Funeral Home, founded by R. R Thomas in 1908, began in Hash Furn building with a furniture store side line. In 1927 Thomas bought the Lewis residence. Poak Thomas later took over in 1937. Partial redecoration of the present quarters has been completed. the chapel seats 180.

Funeral services for Herbert N. Arthur Friday
Herbert N. Arthur, 74, died Tuesday at his Oak Hill home from a heart attack. Funeral services are set for 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Thomas Funeral Home Chapel Oak Hill, with burial in Arthur Cemetery. He was born June 12 1884 in Beckwith, a blacksmith and Methodist. The body remains at the funeral home.

Funeral Friday For Victim Of Auto Accident
Funeral services for Marcellus Olen Jimmy Mitchell 45 Fayetteville will be at Kincaid Methodist Church at 2 pm Friday with Rev. B J Moss. Burial at Highawn Memorial Park. Mitchell, a visitor for the Department of Public Assistance, died in a two car head on collision near Beckley Tuesday. Miss Ida Aiko Oganeku and her mother Mrs Ushi Oganeku died in the other vehicle. Survivors include wife Mary Jane Armstrong Mitchell, foster father Q 5 Mitchell, mother Carrie Ann Settle Morris, three sons Jan Joe Jay, three brothers Lewis Dallas Morris and Harry Thomas Morris, three sisters Olea Caldwell Okey Blake and Wilson Monore, three foster brothers Sheldon Mitchell John and Robert A, and foster sister Emma Sheifer. Tyree Funeral Home Oak Hill is handling arrangements.

Death by own action ends life of Jake Bland
A coroner's jury ruled Jake Bland died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his home in Zenith after despondency over illness. The 76-year-old farmer placed a .22 rifle to his temple. no note was found. He is survived by five siblings and will be buried at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Gap Mills, with funeral at Crimson Springs Baptist Church.

Five Refuse Lie Detector Tests In Pineville Case
Five Glen Rogers men scheduled for lie detector tests in Pineville refused after reading a Beckley newspaper story. Deputy Sheriff Dan Justice said the names are undisclosed. The men were to be questioned about a robbery of Bob McGraw of Glen Fork who said over $130 was taken. Two young girls with the men witnessed the robbery.

Two Keyrock Men Waive to Grand Jury Action
Two Keyrock men Ted Shumate and Jimmy Adkins both 18 waived to the grand jury on breaking and entering charges. Bond set at 1000 dollars each after a preliminary hearing before Magistrate W P Wilson. The break in Allied Enterprises Building East Pineville June 8 involved a combined store and dry cleaning operation owned by R E Kirk. Two guns taken, one shotgun found at a Bowers Ridge home. Shumate had given the shotgun to his brother in law. Further hearings set before Magistrate John Lambert at Oceana on similar charges. Officers on the case were Sheriff Bert Short Pineville Chief Bill Bolt deputies James Gibson Vernle Morgan and Bud Daniels.
