Three Killed In Fayetteville Wreck Details From RNS
RNS reports three people died in a head on collision on U S 21 near Fayetteville caused by a vehicle driving on the wrong side of the road. Victims include Mrs Ushi Oganoku and her daughter Ida Aiko Oganoku of Beckley and Marcellus O. Jimmy Mitchell, driver of the other car. Mitchell, a diabetic from Fayetteville, was speeding with no brakes observed. The crash occurred about 5 15 p m two miles north of Fayetteville. Ida Oganoku, a nurse at Beckley hospital, was 30 and had post graduate study in Chicago and Hawaii. The Oganokus’ daughter had been staying at Beckley hospital and had relatives in California and Hawaii. Mitchell’s wife and three sons survive. his body taken to Dodd-Payne Funeral Home Fayetteville. The Beckley woman and her mother were taken to Webb and Neal Funeral Home Beckley.

Thousands crowded Lake Marland at Baileysville as game warden Charles Costilow officially opened the state lake on Horse Creek. Fishermen from multiple counties and even Kentucky arrived before dawn, with two accidents reported and several notable catches. The $65,000 facility was completed in 1956 on land leased from Ritter Lumber Co. and stocked with 5,000 bluegill and 1,590 bass.
