A Raleigh County circuit court jury was impaneled at 9:35 a m to hear a dispute between Cross Country Truck Service of Florida and I D Lilly of Beckley over a truckload of watermelons valued at 796 35. Lilly claims the driver was hired by another party and asserts no liability, while the trucking firm sues for the amount. The driver Ernest Morgan allegedly diverted to Florida on the second trip instead of South Carolina.

Trooper Wood Re-Enlisted in State Police at Charleston

Former trooper W A Wood of Charleston was re enlisted today in the State Police. Wood resigned in September 1955 after more than seven years of service. He was stationed at Clarksburg for six to twelve years and with the Turnpike division for about one year.

52 Jurors Show Up Four Guilty Pleas Entered

Guilty Pleas In Raleigh County Court Actions

Jurors who appeared were told of four guilty pleas. Leonard Owen Combs admitted breaking and entering Stovers Grocery in Trap Hill District and stealing 340 dollars worth of goods. Sentencing postponed to July 7 with bond intact. Jackie L Davis and Maurice V Davis pleaded guilty to receiving stolen goods from Stovers. Earl Douglas Morton and Dewey McKay Crook pled guilty to breaking into a tool shed in Shady Spring District, about 15 dollars in goods taken. Morton remanded. Crook released on bond. sentencing July 7. Alfred DeWeese pleaded guilty to obstructing an officer and received 12 months in jail. another charge drunk in public left open.
