Helen Rhodell report high water in sections
Two days of heavy rain caused flooding and rock slides along highways in lower Raleigh County. Helen residents say their community flooded by several feet of water late Tuesday, blamed on slate dumped in Helen hollow by a coal company, with the dam breaking. Water was over two feet deep in a restaurant and store near West Virginia 16. Debris filled stretches of about a mile of highway 23 between East Gulf and Rhodell, though trucks and some cars continued to pass. Water stood about a foot in one spot. Many onlookers gathered late Tuesday. Water reached the steps of the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bruce.
