Twenty Republican senators seek a Senate Judiciary Committee investigation of Justice Department actions in the Amerasia secret documents case. Senator Capehart introduced the resolution, aided by 19 colleagues, amid long-running disputes over prosecution conduct and alleged government cover ups. NEW YORK The World Telegram and Sun failed to publish its first edition as AFL printers refused to cross the CIO American Newspaper Guild picket line. Officials said the strike could halt further publication as management faced the labor dispute affecting the paper.
More than 400 AFL IBEW members in New York Hollywood San Francisco and Washington walked off in a contract dispute forcing the cancellation of six CBS television programs last night. The union said ongoing negotiations with CBS met with an adamant refusal of union demands.
The big daily with a 600000 circulation halted after a 7:30 a.m. guild strike though printers did not cross picket lines. Negotiations had deadlocked after three months with demands including a 10 percent pay raise and higher minimums from 40 to 120 weekly, plus senior hiring and other benefits.

Louisiana senate votes 30 to 2 to drop contempt proceedings against publisher David Stern and editor Clayton Fritchey over an editorial calling senators trained seals and lackeys of Gov. Earl Long. A bill to compel replies and impose fines up to 3000 dollars faces a failed attempt to kill it and would set 30 to 90 day jail terms for noncompliance.
Charleston report states an insurance firm offering real estate loans only to buyers of new life insurance violates West Virginia law. Assistant Attorneys General Brown and Stephenson issue opinions for Crichton and Sims, with a separate $131 award to Virginia Palmer for a National Guard truck collision dispute.
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Nixon early today at Raleigh General Hospital. The newborn weighed eight pounds 15 ounces and was named Harry Eugene Nixon III. Mrs. Nixon, formerly Wanda June Neal of Oak Hill, is the mother.
London Prime Minister Attlee defended Britain's cautious position on the Schuman coal and steel pool. A Richmond Cleaners and Laundry dispute flared as Mamie Peters allege s she was molested by women UCW pickets while passing their line at 10 am. Peters says several pickets followed her into a restaurant and shouted at her before back at the plant. The UCW denies the assault. Owner Jess Richmond says 85 percent of inside workers are back on duty amid a 19 day strike. CIO Local president Florence Widener had said 114 employees had signed union cards. About 25 UCW pickets were seen around the plant at noon.
Two Charleston men sentenced to die in first degree murder pressed for state Supreme Court reviews today. Robert Ballard Bailey, 25, already sought a third petition in a week, while Fred C. Painter, 30, seeks review after Kanawha Circuit Court denial of his intermediate conviction appeal. Painter and co-defendant Harry Atlee Burdette, 26, were convicted in the July 31 murder of Edward C. O'Brien on a Charleston street. Bailey faces execution for the robbery murder of Rozina Fazio at the state penitentiary in Moundsville.
Raleigh County Circuit Court deliberations began at 1 30 today in the case L G Wickline versus E H Cook trading as Cook Motor Company Beckley seeking $200 deposit on a Hudson coupe paid June 9 1948 for delivery by Sept 1 1948. Defendant said no delivery date was set and later could not be contacted while plaintiff at West Virginia University.

Settlement in the $200000 damage suit brought by E C Minter Jr of Beckley against the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway Company was reached out of court. The case was to be heard yesterday by a Raleigh County Circuit Court jury. Attorneys for the plaintiff were unavailable for comment on the settlement amount.
Charleston report that Rep John Kee a veteran Bluefield Democrat filed for renomination to a 10th term as the Fifth District member of the U S House. Kee has served since 1933 and is the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee. He is the only Democrat to file so far.
Anastas Calendar, a 64 year old shoemaker born in Russia, was fined five dollars plus costs by Municipal Judge Eugene J. Holland for disturbing commercial advertising in Chicago’s Lincoln Park. He distributed cards claiming a Greek potion could predetermine a baby’s sex with no money due until proof. The judge ordered 200 cards destroyed.
A four engined Air France plane carrying 50 aboard crashed in the Persian Gulf north of Bahrein. After 12 hours of rescue efforts five were dead, six rescued, and 39 missing. Survivors included two crew members. others were among 42 passengers from Saigon to Paris. The flight was en route Karachi to Cairo with Bahrein as a planned stop.
President Truman plans executive action to reveal confidential income tax returns and government data on underworld figures to a Senate committee probing gambling and crime. Chairman Estes Kefauver expects the order soon as staff meet behind closed doors regarding William Molasky, Pioneer News Service co-owner, cited as an "overlord" of racing news in St. Louis.

A 25 dollar government bond will be awarded to the winning designer, with two five dollar prizes for second and third place. The 20 member committee will judge the designs.
