Diet Differences Noted In Study On Blood Fats
The article reviews a Rockefeller Institute nine year study showing blood fats depend mainly on how the body converts carbohydrates into fat, not on dietary fat. Dutch monk studies found no blood pressure differences between lac tovegetarians and mixed diets, higher cholesterol in Benedictines, similar myocardial infarction rates to monks but lower than general population, and hints that mixed diets may modestly raise arteriosclerosis risk while monastic life may lessen stress related heart events.
