Beckley Lions Club will elect officers June 20 with installation set for June 27 at a ladies night dinner at Black Knight Country Club. Buffet at 7 pm, installation after, dancing 9 pm to 1 am. New officers assume July 1. COL. JOHN P. WEST spoke on Army service in France and Germany and coal mining operations in the Ruhr, including the first postwar German mine at Achen. He described a 3825 foot coal seam and coal reserves in Germany. A Lions style show proceeds totaled 1 973.49 dollars for sight conservation and blind fund aiding county residents with eye exams glasses and operations.

Glen Rogers Man Jailed On Forgery Charge
R. B. Harron of Glen Rogers was arrested by state police June 5 on three charges. At his hearing in Magistrate T. N. Thurman’s court he waived to the grand jury on forgery and pled guilty to carrying a pistol and disturbing the peace on January 10. He was fined $50 and costs for the pistol charge and jailed in Raleigh County Jail for six months in default of payment.
