Beckley Fire Department to gain its own radio system
The Beckley Fire Department filed with the FCC for authorization to operate on 154.4 megacycles, moving from the police channel to a dedicated fire service frequency as part of the FCC narrow banding rule changes effective Nov 1 1963. Preparations include erecting the frequency antenna to implement the new system by July 1, reflecting a nationwide move to separate fire and police communications and improve district licensing.
