Write-in candidate Aliff was reelected mayor of Pax defeating Frank Wriston. Aliff received 45 votes to Wriston's 21. Dorothy L. Aliff, his daughter and Pax's first woman recorder, was re-elected unopposed for two years. Council members Homer Aliff and Howard Smith were reelected. Others elected include P. L. Humphrey Marie Davis and Bob Humphrey. Several current councilmen did not run again. Frank Tyree earned one write-in vote.

Lawson Arrested In Injury Of Brother
Mount Hope police said Fred Latyson of Nicholas County was arrested Saturday night for investigation of injuring his brother Earl Latyson at their father's Mount Hope home. Fred used a walking cane in self defense after Earl, reportedly drunk, attempted to stab him. Earl was hospitalized with a fractured skull and listed in good condition at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Beckley.

In Oceana Gulf Service Center was entered Monday night with a safe containing about $100 and papers stolen along with five tires two cases of motor oil a box of tools and other items including an English made pistol. Police and deputies from Wyoming County and state troopers investigate while noting possible out of town involvement. Mount Hope residents will vote June 1 on a three year special levy to fund street and White Way lighting system repair and modernization. Mayor Bernard Rocke says the levy would minimally raise taxes but provide needed funding for city services.
