London reports reveal the crown jewels were quietly moved to Westminster Abbey for the coronation amid tight security. Crowds along the coronation route packed streets and parks as Prince Charles and the royal family prepared for the historic ceremony.
West Virginia Farm Bureau denounces a compromise budget bill as a betrayal to rural needs. It cites the 30 million cut for secondary roads and a 700 000 annual restoration to Public Assistance, sending telegrams to 50 counties urging lawmakers to oppose the plan and protesting the 3.5 million surplus allocation for roads.
OAK HILL A retired miner and his wife lost their life savings in a Sunday fire. Fire Chief Arthur Akers said Luther and Mrs. Page of Minden claimed 20 000 in total loss including 15 000 in silver and folding money stored in various places around the house. The two story home owned by New River and Pocahontas Consolidated Coal Co. burned from a coal cook stove. The Pages had no insurance and hydrants or water supply were lacking. Nine live chickens also perished in the basement.

Pearl Mae Smith of Besoco was fined 25 dollars and costs after a Magistrate J P Meadows hearing for driving without an operator’s license. She was arrested Sunday by state police. Raleigh Countain Ray Wiles of Pemberton is slated for arraignment tomorrow before Meadows on a driving while intoxicated charge. Wiles was arrested Sunday by state police.

Candria Virginia man Gordon Otey posted a $60.50 bond at Raleigh County jail on a drunken driving charge but remained held on a Hinton police warrant for hit and run. Jailer's office said he was arrested Friday by State Police Trooper C M England.
Robert R. Thomas Jr. of WOAY Oak Hill travels to Washington to discuss the FCC revocation of Channel 4 assignment. He had sought Channel 4 for Oak Hill then Fayetteville, alleging the move aimed to circumvent the commission. The FCC cancelled the assignment Friday.
Sophia merchant W. J. Lovell announced as a candidate for the town council on the Citizens Party ticket in Sophia for the upcoming municipal election. A police officer distributed election supplies and voter registration books in Beckley for the morrow's vote.
The final event of the Atomic Energy Commission's spring series in Las Vegas Nevada has been postponed until before dawn tomorrow due to adverse weather. The blast was originally set for this morning and will be rescheduled to a safer early morning window.
Sheriff John Ward warns of a 120 day rabies quarantine and reports many dogs running loose. Legal posters required by state law have not yet arrived from the State Department of Agriculture, delaying enforcement until posting is possible. Once received, deputies and dog wardens will poster strategic locations and enforce the quarantine.

Fayette Bishop of Helen is being treated at Beckley Hospital for a left eye injury sustained while welding while employed by Eastern Gas and Fuel Associates. Norman Jean Flower of MacArthur received chin injuries from a fall on Sunday. Dale Webb of Sundial sustained an upper lip injury while swimming.
Sophia resident George Botman Jr. is hospitalized with shotgun wounds to the face left arm and leg after an early morning shooting in Sophia. Bruno Molon is jailed in Raleigh County on felonious assault charges pending investigation. Botman says Molon shot him from behind as he fled toward a hill after an argument with his wife. State Police confirm the shooting and the hospital reports medical removal of 100 pellets.
Networks rush to cover Queen Elizabeth’s coronation with sound only radio then TV pictures from London. NBC CBS ABC and Dumont race for earliest airings while NBC NBC TV CBS TV and MBS set dawn schedules in EST with additional relays throughout the day.
Violent winds hail and heavy rain struck Beckley and nearby towns Sunday causing crop and building damage. No deaths or injuries were reported. Roofs were the main losses with power outages and several property claims filed. In Charleston a 76 mph gust damaged the West Side, with seven fires from downed lines and shattered windows.
Parrish Motor Corp of Spencer sues Frank Massey of Sundial in Circuit Court seeking 800 dollars claiming Massey owes for a second hand hay bailer. The case opened today in court.
State Police reported 12 barrels of mash destroyed on Ellison Ridge Road at 10 p.m. Saturday. Trooper R. O. Warfe said the operator was not found but he and Trooper Eng land broke up eight full barrels described as really working and four other barrels about half full.
