Seattle's Unemployment Hits Nation's Highest Pace
The Seattle area endures 11.8 percent jobless rate with 69,100 unemployed in the work force. Howard Kraft, a Boeing veteran and engineer, now leads church remodeling projects while others like John Warner drive cabs or switch to varied work as Boeing reduces staff. The piece notes high anxiety over retirement, medical coverage, and a bifurcated local economy with rising commerce yet lingering hard unemployment.
