Mount Hope A Thriving Coal Town's Early History and Growth
Mount Hope in Fayette county grew with coal development at Sugar and Loop creeks served by Glen Jean and Eastern railways. From Blake's 1805 settlement to incorporation in 1895 the town rebuilt after 1910 fire, attracted two big coal firms, built a Y M C A, banked growth, and expanded public services and education amid a wave of modernization.
