Hundreds Seek Tickets Onst Nuclear Liner
Several hundred would-be passengers have submitted applications for tickets to travel on the NS Savannah the first American nuclear powered merchant ship. The Savannah is about 60 to 70 percent complete and launching is set for Tuesday with trials in 1960. Mrs Eisenhower will christen the ship. The project aims to demonstrate peaceful atomic energy and the ship costs about 40.95 million dollars. The undersecretary of commerce said later atomic ships will be truly competitive with oil powered vessels in operating costs and earnings.
