Escaped convict captured in Boone County jail hold
Madison authorities report an escapee from a northern county prison road camp was captured near Prenter by a regional posse. Sherman Stephens, about 25, awaiting transfer to the West Virginia State Penitentiary, was taken into custody as two other escapees were suspected in Giles County Virginia. Local officers say Carter, a Black man arrested in Whitesville, was once believed linked to the Giles County escapees but this was discounted. Carter faces loitering and intoxication charges after a separate arrest in Sylvester.
