Van Stith Elevated to Vice President at Anchor Coal
Van Stith, long time general superintendent at Anchor Coal Company, was named vice president by the board. He will keep his office at Highcos and continue as general superintendent. Stith, a 1931 recruit from Black Diamond in Kentucky, is a Missouri mining graduate with multiple certificates and has led Red Cross drives and cooling beverage promotions for the firm. The company runs mines at Highcoal and Whitesville in Boone County.

Mullens Permits Total $165 950 For First Six Months
Mullens city records show permits issued in early 1950 for building and remodeling with an estimated total cost of 185 050. Since July 1 the year’s total stands at 181 450 for new construction and improvements. Recent approvals include B G Thompson six room frame house on Circle Drive and Rev Sam B McClure six room frame house on Front Street Goose Hollow. Cecil H Terry Virginian Railway broadmaster obtained a permit for a five room frame dwelling on Circle Drive.

Frank Whorley of Herndon Heights draws 10 days in Wyoming County Jail and a $50 fine plus costs for hunting a wild rabbit out of season. Magistrate W. R.
