Armstrong Rites Slated Saturday at Fairview Church

Funeral services for James Elmer Armstrong 69 of Oak Hill will be held at 2 p m Saturday at Fairview Methodist Church Fast Kingston with Rev B T Moss of Kincaid to officiate. Burial follows at High Lawn Memorial Park Oak Hill. The body will be moved from Tyree Funeral Home to his residence at 2 30 p m today and to the church one hour before the service.

Ber Nice Loraine Taylor of Clear Creek married Roy Andrew Yost of Stokesdale North Carolina on Friday evening. The Rev Ernest Barley conducted the ceremony at his Bradley residence. Mrs Daugherty Guest Speaker at Vandalia Garden Club

PAYETTEVILLE RNS Mrs J W Daugherty of Oak Hill was guest speaker at the Vandalia Garden Club meeting held at the home of Mrs C T Shackelford with co host Mrs W Tudor. She spoke on Outdoor Arrangements with tips on color planning seed planting and affordable blooms. New president Mrs Myron Renick received the 1943 7 scrapbook and the club voted to join a youth recreation civic council with Renick as representative. Dues increased from 2 to 3 and several members contributed garden hints and devotional remarks.

Russell Rites Conducted Today

Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Russell, 67, were to be conducted at 3:30 pm today in the Church of God at Garrison by Rev. J. M. Kite. Burial was to be made in Miller Cemetery at Rock Creek. Mrs. Russell, of Sylvester, died at her home Tuesday night after a long illness. Survivors include one son Clyde Thomas of Jarrglds Valley and four sisters Miss Lottie Leiner of South Charleston, Miss Georgia Leiner of Sweet Springs, Mrs. Rockie Bays of Spring Hill, and Mrs. Hilda Poff of St. Albans.

Carr Funeral Slated Today

Sylvester funeral services for Clarence Edward Carr were set for 1 p.m. at Orgas Presbyterian Church, with burial in Comfort Cemetery. Carr, 66, died in a Charleston hospital from a heart attack. Survivors include his wife Virgie Mae Carr, three daughters Ellen Cox, Irene Morris, and Ethel Carr, two sons and a growing list of relatives across Ohio and West Virginia, along with seven grandchildren.

A former Fayette Countian now living in Crosswicks New Jersey will speak at 11 a.m. Sunday worship at Pleasant View Church of the Brethren Route 1 Fayetteville. Larry Hitchcock will discuss Personal Relations In a Penal Institution based on his work with juveniles in a New Jersey reformatory. Hitchcock belongs to the Dale Carnegie Club whose members donate evenings to juvenile speech classes.

Charleston beer commissioner Roy D. Platt revoked the license of Lucille M. Jeffrey doing business as the White Tower at Henlawson Logan County and suspended another license. Jeffrey’s $300 bond was forfeited on a charge of selling liquor.

Self Preservation Taught To Miners After Mine Explosion

Fitzgerald reports that self preservation methods are being taught to Tioga Coal Co Mine No. 1 workers after an explosion 18 months ago. Harold M. Hook assisted in the accident prevention course with U S Bureau of Mines guidance.

Fayette Jury Verdicts Voluntary Manslaughter in Holdren Case

Fayetteville RNS reports Obed Holdren, 36, of Cannelton, convicted of voluntary manslaughter by a Fayette Circuit Jury after 20 minutes of deliberation. Sentencing ranges one to five years. Holdren held on bond as motions proceed. Jury previously deadlocked on Thursday after deliberations.

Nine members of the Pax Farm Woman's Club completed a three week home nursing course sponsored by the Fayette County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
