Gauley Bridge Bottleneck to Be Eliminated in Major Route 80 Project
The Gauley Bridge Kanawha Falls improvement on U S Route 80 will start with a 100 foot bridge across the Kanawha River at Gauley Bridge and a back channel fill. Keeley Construction Co won the bridge bid at 292 283, while Bose and Ritchie will handle filling and paving on about one mile of roadway for 535 075. The three mile project, costing about 4 300 000, aims to relieve one of the state s worst bottlenecks and reduce chronic traffic tie ups. Chairman Cavendish notes the new alignment will use the existing bridge temporarily and improve space constraints in rugged terrain.
