Plan Proposed for State Education Department Reorganization
Two board members urged written policies clarifying relationships among State Department employees and the State Board. They argued the personnel clash signals deeper faults in the education system amid forced change and lack of positive leadership. They noted no enabling legislation for appointive governance and warned a superintendent could, by choice, become a czar with limited staff rights. The board also backed repledging support for a Mason County teacher education and school improvement initiative with a $1 million foundation investment, led by Marshall University and the Education Department.
