County to Lose 30-40 Teachers due to Enrollment Drop
Raleigh County faces a reduction of 30 to 40 teaching positions as elementary school enrollment declines. Superintendent Sherman Trail notes several years of falling counts, with about 400 fewer students in 1964-65 and expectations of further declines in 1965-66. Budget director G. G. Greene cites families moving away as the cause, affecting probationary staff and those without completed A. B. degrees.
