Auto Races At Raleigh County Fair Grounds
Twelve cars are entered for two days of auto races at the Raleigh County Fair Grounds track. Weather has left the track in excellent condition with possible state records. Elimination heats cover five miles, finals for top finishers plus a consolation ten mile race. Time trials open each day to set heat positions. Tax Commissioner Suing Over West Virginia Textbook Adoptions
Chaveston W V July 2 Tax Commissioner T C Townsend moved to halt book adoptions in West Virginia by filing a second suit to cancel the latest state board contracts. He claims the board exceeded authority by changing more than 30 percent of subjects though officials say only two and a half subjects, about 23 percent, were altered. He alleges changes were not bona fide but for publishers’ benefit.
