Oak Hill Names New Member and Assistant Mayor
Oak Hill City Council selected John Gwinn principal of Scarbro Elementary to fill the vacancy left by Fred W. Dickenson, who resigned due to health. Joseph Keatley was named assistant mayor. Deputy assessor Keatley and Gwinn, a 22 and 12 year Oak Hill resident respectively, will serve until the next municipal election June 2 1959. Bennett named building official. a building inspector will be chosen by a committee. Next council meeting set Aug 4 due to primary election conflicts. Steve Hennigar, 37, Coal Mountain, admitted to Stevens Clinic after a chain line wreck at Island Creek Coal Company.

Funeral Thursday For J. Christian
Funeral services for Joseph Hiram Christian will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Oak Hill Methodist Church conducted by Rev. R. J. Chenoweth. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park. Christian, 73, of Oak Hill, died Monday night at home. He was a retired New River Coal Co. employee, born in Mingo County on July 4, World War I veteran, member of Oak Ridge Methodist Church and American Legion Post No 59. Survivors include wife Ida M. Christian, son J. B. of Salem Washington, and three sisters Martha Lambert, Rebecca Higginbotham, and Leona Wallace. Body remains at Thom as Funeral Home until one hour before funeral.

CHARLESTON The recent State Police transfer and demotion of E. D. Bazzie formerly a sergeant at South Charleston and Princeton now a trooper at Elkins may be investigated by a Legislative committee State Senate President Ralph K Bean said he would bring the matter to the Joint Committee on Government and Finance when it meets in Charleston July 13.

Martin Funeral Slated Thursday in Mount Hope
Funeral services for Bertha Stephenson Martin will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Hope Presbyterian Church with Rev. William Hatcher officiating. She died Tuesday after a three week illness in Oak Hill hospital. She was 638 Mount Hope and a retired school teacher, member of Mount Hope Presbyterian Church and Order of White Shrine. Survived by two sons H. R. Calloway and William G. Calloway, Mount Hope. a sister Mrs. T. H. Snyder, Mount Hope. and three grandchildren. The body will be at Tyler Funeral Home, Mount Hope, one hour before the funeral.

Fire at Mine Lochgelly Watch Sparks From Welder
A bug dust fire broke out on the Belt Lines of the tipple at New River Mines Lochgelly at 10 50 p m Tuesday. Oak Hill Fire Department responded. An employee said sparks from a welder’s torch likely started the blaze that day.

Timothy Alan Lilly, eight pounds, born at 12 31 p.m. Monday at Wyoming General Hospital to Mr and Mrs Thomas H Buddy Lilly of Mullens. The couple also have a three year old daughter Tomi Jo. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Leland Harless and Mr and Mrs T Herold Lilly.
