Orsborn Aims to Rebuild Salvation Army Worldwide
Albert W. T. Orsborn, elected General of the Salvation Army, calls the group the bulldozer of religion and plans to take the Army to the streets and into homes. The widowed leader, in his forties, blends mysticism and realism, emphasizes moral lines on marriage and sobriety, and seeks tolerance for modern youth while maintaining strict routines and active outreach. He is a prolific writer and hymn composer who envisions the Army working through everyday life to reach the lost.

The progress report cited 406,000 homes started in five months, 34 percent of the yearly goal, the largest volume since 1925. Builders must meet price and rental ceilings to gain construction approval.
