Two Jailbreakers Face Hearing
Raleigh County youths John Lilly aged 16 of Beckley and Carl Ray Tredway 15 of Stotesbury escaped from the juvenile section of the Raleigh County Jail by crawling through a vent and riding the elevator to the basement. They were captured late Saturday and jailed in the criminal section. Lilly hid in a box at a home, while Tredway was caught on Piney Avenue with a carton of cigarettes found on him. Mrs Katharine Lawrick, who aided the escape, posted a $500 bond and was jailed briefly before release. Judge Harry L. McCreery will hear the case. Lilly and Tredway are in custody with the sheriff reporting the incident and repairs to light sockets and ventilator completed.
