Better Schools Tax Test Appeal Debated in Court
Charleston UPI report shows state Supreme Court examining whether county courts can levy taxes beyond 1958 amend limits. Mercer County Court ruled such levies for airport bonds valid, while a 1959 law was struck down. Appalachian argued the 1958 amendment limits apply only to school districts, not counties or cities. Attorneys debated all and any meanings as support briefs from Wheeling, Randolph County, and the WV League of Municipalities were filed.
