Grandview State Park May Benefit From Higher Tax
In Charleston improvements at Grandview State Park may be funded by a higher sales tax, with Governor Barron to decide. Money aims to support the outdoor theater for West Virginia's Honey in the Rock premiere, but funds may not cover a paved lot, seats, or sewage. Director Warden Lane seeks early action with Barron to permit 70 percent for labor, 30 for materials, though the 70-30 split is not in the bill. A plan to proceed depends on state approval and weather, Lane says. Also Rep Mike Casey will introduce a bill tightening indecent exposure laws and reclassifying certain break-ins as burglaries.

West Virginia Tax Dept: mail orders not taxed under hike
The state tax department says the new sales tax increase from two to three cents on dollars does not apply to merchandise brought in from out of state or to goods bought on time before Monday when the bill became law. Use tax provisions remain at 2 percent for out‑of‑state mail orders and pre‑effective‑date contracts. The calculation allows 3 percent on even dollars minus one cent, or 3 percent plus a cent per 30 cents for fractions.
